Upward is a uniquely designed sports experience that seeks to develop each athlete mentally, athletically, spiritually, and socially. This developmental process is called the 360 Progression. This unique approach is based on Luke 2:52, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.    Upward Sports is a national youth sports organization that provides a wide range of sport league options. New Holland Church of the Nazarene has been hosting the Upward basketball program to the community since 2005. Because of popularity and limited facility space, we have partnered with Christian Fellowship Church, Petra Church and ELANCO School District, to more effectively serve our community.

In 2026, 423 athletes competed in the New Holland Upward Basketball and Cheer program.  25 game hours of basketball were played each weekend with 62.50 hours of practice each week. In addition, 2 cheer teams delighted the spectators and cheered on the players each weekend.  

Registration for the 2027 Upward season will open on Saturday, October 3rd 2026.  

Player Evaluation dates for Kindergarten through 4th grade will be November 2nd, 3rd & 5th at the New Holland Church of the Nazarene. Evaluation dates for 5th-9th grade divisions will be either Saturday, November 14th & Saturday, November 21st. Times to be announced.

First week of practices will be January 4th and first game weekend will be January 8th & 9th, 2027. Last weekend of games  for Level 4 and Championship Saturday will be determined at a later date. The end of season celebration for Level 1-3 is the weekend of February 26th & 27th.
